Beta Testing for the 2016 season
We were asked back to be one of the 2015 Control System Beta Testing teams and received upgrades to the software and some new replacement hardware to the robot control system in mid-October. Our objectives include creating a benchtop test hardware setup, installing the new system on an old robot, testing extreme conditions and whatever else we can think of to stress the new system. We're responsible for recommending improvements to the user documentation, identifying software and hardware issues, and making suggestions for adjustments.
The Hauppauge Homecoming parade was canceled this year for weather ahead of time. Unlike last year when the cancelled parade had to "parade" back to the high school anyway.
The SBPLI golf fundraiser was also cancelled for this year. There was a disconnect on who was organizing the event and it just didn't get done.
Safe Halloween This year we participated in TWO Safe Halloweens.
I suppose that helps makeup for the lack of a parade this year...
The first was Friday night with one of our old robots loaned to a rookie team at Bellport high school for their Safe Halloween night. The students were excited to see and drive a real FRC robot for their first time. They had several Vex robots for the little ones to drive while the high school students drove the monster FRC robot.
At Hauppauge on Saturday (actually Halloween) we tied a recycle bin to the Rebound Rumble robot and let the trick or treaters, that came to the high school's pre-Holloween indoor/afternoon celebration, attempt to throw a nerf basketball into the can while the robot sometimes avoided them and sometimes helped them make a basket for a candy reward.
Our team and robot will be demonstrating at the Barnes & Noble bookstore Maker Faire at Smith Haven. Long Island teams and FRC/FLL/FTC/Vex teams all over the country are demonstrating at their local bookstores as part of this Maker Faire series.
Half Hollow Hills Invitational This one was on the second Saturday of November. Another fun off-season competition where lots of team members got the opportunity to drive our last season's robot in competition.
Rotary Club Mid-December we made a robot presentation to the local Rotary Club at the Hauppauge Diner where they treated us to breakfast! Letting them know what we are doing and our positive effect on our students.
We plan to demonstrate as usual at our Middle School Science Fair in January. Our annual demonstration at the Middle School during their science fair open house after hours for the parents to come and see.
Competition
We competed at the Tech Valley Regional and the SBPLI Long Island Regional as usual. We did not win or qualify via the lottery from the waitlist to attend Championships.
